From artisans to entrepreneurs! ArunaSocial Ventures' training programs are paving the way for women to sustain and grow their own businesses.
July 2024
Beyond the technical skills, the program includes comprehensive training in sales, marketing, and small enterprise management. Women learn how to effectively promote their products, understand market demands, and manage their finances, which are crucial components for running a successful business. This holistic approach ensures that they are not just skilled artisans but also savvy entrepreneurs capable of sustaining and growing their businesses. As a result, these women become more aware of their capabilities, self-reliant, and financially independent, paving the way for a brighter future for themselves and their families. The ripple effect of this empowerment extends to their communities, inspiring others and contributing to overall social and economic development.

ArunaSocial Ventures reaches out to rural women of Chhattisgarh
April 2023
Through its ArunaKaryashala programme, ArunaSocial Ventures wishes to skill, train and support women from these villages to start sustainable livelihood generation activities, either individually or collectively, which can be scaled up over time to generate employment opportunities for large numbers of women and youth from these communities. Post training and start-up of their enterprises, ArunaKaryashala will support them in providing market linkages for their products in some key markets of North and East India.
Family members are important stakeholders in the process of empowerment of women from low-income communities.
April 2023
This interaction gave the family members better insight into the training process and also helped them understand the objective of the training programmes. It was motivating for the women trainee-entrepreneurs to see the support of their family members in their endeavor to learn new skills and to prepare for a more promising and self-reliant future.
Market visit of trainee – entrepreneurs
March 2023
Learning through field visits is an important part of the Business and Entrepreneurship Training programme at ArunaKaryashala. One such field visit introduces the trainee-entrepreneurs to the modern retail environment by taking them to malls and showrooms of established brands. During this market visit, the trainee-entrepreneurs get to experience first-hand how products are sold at such marketplaces and the branding activities undertaken by established brands.
Other important learnings from these market visits include customer handling, display management, identifying market trends and new product development.
For some trainee-entrepreneurs, this happens to be their first visit to a mall or opportunity for travel on the metro. Such visits help in building their confidence and in giving them the motivation to travel and interact with strangers independently and without hesitation. There is also an element of fun in these field visits, as they get to end the day with a hearty meal of their favourite food at the food court of the mall!
Women’s Day celebration with our trainee-entrepreneurs and community women
March 2023
For some women from the community, who are not used to venturing out of their homes independently, it was a great platform to interact with women trainee-entrepreneurs and get motivated by them to learn new skills and prepare to start some income generation activity on their own.
The event offered an opportunity for learning to the participants, through motivational videos and discussions, as well as for enjoyment through fun activities. Those women who did not know the significance of ‘Women’s Day’ got to know about it and this will help them develop a greater sense of self-worth and confidence in their abilities.
Creating awareness regarding recycling, upcycling and reduction of wastage through an exhibition of recycled and handcrafted items
March 2023
Interesting and innovative ideas were used to recycle waste products like pistachio shells, disposable plastic spoons, disposable paper cups, plastic bottle caps, non-woven bags, used garments and waste paper to create aesthetically appealing and useful items such as handbags, pillow covers, coasters, bottle covers, toys, wall hangings and other decoration items. The emphasis was not only on recycling waste products but also on designing and making products which are functional, well finished and saleable.
Through this exhibition the trainee-entrepreneurs not only became aware about ways to reduce waste in their immediate surroundings but also on how to ensure functionality, aesthetics and quality control to design and develop products which can be sold to potential customers at a reasonable price.

February 2023
ArunaKaryashala is providing garment design training and advanced stitching training to many such women to upgrade their skills and help them make marketable products. Garment manufacturing can be a good option for microenterprises, as it can be undertaken even at a small scale and from the homes of the community women. The challenge is to ensure that the designs, cuts and quality of stitching meet the expectations of the customers in a highly competitive market segment. Upskilling and providing market-oriented training helps in overcoming these challenges.

Celebrating International Day for Elderly People
October 2022
She stays with her son and granddaughter and works at our Social Impact Center at Uttam Nagar. Even at this age she wants to be independent and not depend on her family members for financial support. ... Although she gets some support from her brother and sister-in-law, she tries to avoid it as much as possible. Her son does not have a regular source of income and whatever money he earns he spends on himself and on his alcohol addiction. Satya ji is loved by everyone at our Social Impact Center and she is a great source of inspiration for all of us. She is meticulous in her work, never gets late and has never taken any leaves, and she does all her work with a smile on her face. We are all grateful to have her and seeing her we’ve realized that age is not a limiting factor as long as one has the will and motivation to do something. Let’s look up to our elders and learn from them, and cherish our association with them.
